This book explores energy efficiency solutions, offering lucid explanations coupled with actionable guidance. It is an indispensable reference for professionals such as designers, analysts, and individuals keen on mastering energy efficiency. It starts with an introduction to the foundational principles of thermodynamics and energy efficiency, setting the stage for deeper comprehension of subsequent topics. It further elucidates the concept of exergy, shedding light on the measurement of energy quality and its significance in energy efficiency evaluations. A pivotal focus of the book is on the Energy Return on Investment (EROI) and its implications for the competitive landscape of oil production. Readers will gain valuable insights into the integral role that energy efficiency plays in enhancing the overall efficiency and profitability of oil-producing entities. The book underscores the pragmatic application of energy efficiency analyses specifically within the realm of oil production. This book is a compendium of best practices, illustrative case studies, and contemporary methodologies in energy efficiency analysis. This immersive, hands-on approach empowers designers and analysts with the requisite tools and expertise to drive optimal energy utilization in oil production facilities.
Marcus Vinicius da Silva Neves is Equipment Engineer at PETROBRAS since 2002. He has an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ) and is doing his Ph.D. studies in energy planning program at the same university. He has been certified as Energy Manager by the American Society of Energy Engineers (AEE). At PETROBRAS, he has held several managing positions, including Maintenance Engineering Manager, Operational Safety Manager, Offshore Installation Manager, and now he acts as Petrobras University's manager of the center of science and technologies related to Petroleum and Geosciences. He is Author of the book Energy Efficiency in Petroleum Production and in Thermoelectric Power Plants and has actuated as Collaborator Professor at Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ), among others, for post-graduation programs.
Antonio Felipe Flutt, Mechanical Engineer (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, UFRJ, 1990, Brazil - Academic Dignity at MAGNA CUM LAUDE for the performance shown), postgraduate degree in oil and gas equipment engineering (PETROBRAS, 2003, Brazil), M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, UFRJ / COPPE-2008, Brazil). Collaborating professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), the Federal Center for Technological Education of Rio de Janeiro (CEFET / RJ) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC -Rio) for postgraduate programs. Based at the Petrobras Corporate University in Rio de Janeiro, he has been employed by PETROBRAS since 2002. He holds the position of Equipment Engineer and has worked as a teacher, senior consultant, and coordinator of training, specialization, and improvement courses in the fields of flow, thermodynamics, and dynamic equipment. He is also the coordinator of the Equipment Engineering Training Course - Mechanics and is in charge of creating programs for engineering selection processes. And now he acts as Petrobras University's general manager. He is also Author of the book Energy Efficiency in Petroleum Production and in Thermoelectric Power Plants.
