Wireless Networking Principles: From Terrestrial to Underwater Acoustic (eBook)
XXXVIII, 411 Seiten
Springer Singapore (Verlag)
978-981-10-7775-3 (ISBN)
This book systematically summarizes the fundamentals and various technologies in both terrestrial radio wireless networks and underwater acoustic networks (UWANs). It addresses the basic issues frequently investigated in terrestrial radio wireless networks and the key technologies suitable for the newly developing research area of UWANs. Starting with a review of our current understanding of wireless networks, it then introduces the principles of the main technologies, including error control, medium access control (MAC) protocols, routing protocols, end-to-end transmission control and mobility issues as well as network security for terrestrial radio wireless networks, and offers detailed surveys of these technologies for UWANs.
Providing readers with the basic knowledge of terrestrial radio wireless networking technologies and raising readers' awareness of the developing topic of UWANs in ocean , it is a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in terrestrial radio wireless networks and UWANs.
Shengming Jiang is a professor of the College of Information Engineering, Shanghai Maritime University, China. He received his bachelor's degree from the Shanghai Maritime Institute (now Shanghai Maritime University) in 1988, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Paris VI and University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-En-Yvelines, France respectively, all in computer science. From 1988 to 1990, he was an assistant engineer in the Nanjing Petrol Transportation Company, China. He was a research associate in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Computer Science Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, from 1995 to 1997. He was then a member of technical staff at the Centre for Wireless Communications, the National University of Singapore, until July 2000, and a senior member of technical staff as well as the acting leader of the network strategic group from 2001 to 2003. He was an associate lead scientist and the leader of the End-to-End QoS Laboratory in the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Singapore until 2004. He was a principal lecturer at the Faculty of Advanced Technology, the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales), UK, from 2007 to 2009. He was also a professor at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, the South China University of Technology from 2004 to 2013.
His research interest includes networking issues in both wired and wireless networks as well as mobile computing, and he has with more than 25 years of international R&D experience in France, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK and China. He led and participated in several national science foundation projects for networking technologies in Singapore and China. He has published more than 140 papers on related areas, and many in prestigious journals and conferences such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC), IEEE Transactions on Communications, and IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications as well as IEEE INFOCOM.
