Adult Sibling Loss
Baywood Publishing Company Inc (Verlag)
978-0-89503-827-2 (ISBN)
This book gives readers the opportunity to experience the intensity of this relationship through the eyes of three bereaved siblings. Their experiences, both before and after loss, are powerfully presented using a narrative style that allows the complexity and depth of their individual relationships to shine brightly. The author, a bereaved sibling herself, artfully weaves her story throughout, adding to the richness of the text. Through these collective stories, readers are invited to explore their own reactions and reflect on the many ways siblings affect each other over the long term. Bereaved siblings, clinicians, medical professionals, therapists, social workers, funeral directors, religious leaders, bereavement groups, and anyone who supports or knows a bereaved sibling will find benefit in this book. This highly readable text will both touch and inform readers.
Dr. Brenda Marshall is a well known speaker, coach, and counsellor from Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada. Her interest in grief work came after the sudden death of her younger brother in 2006. At the time, she was a senior level business consultant at a busy management consultancy. Recognising the challenges she faced grieving her brother's death while carrying on in her role, she decided to create a resource to support others. The Solacium Group was founded in 2009. Brenda now splits her time between general organisational consulting through FLOW Learning Group, Solacium consulting, and a busy writing and speaking schedule. She is a sought after expert in the field of Adult Sibling Loss and Grief in the Workplace, speaks at international events across North America and regularly consults with professionals and individuals dealing with loss. Brenda holds a Ph.D. in Adult Education from the University of Toronto, an M.Ed. in Teaching and Learning from Brock University, a BSc. in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Toronto and has advanced training in Solution Focused and Narrative approaches to coaching and counselling. In addition she is certified in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement through the Association for Death Education and Counseling(R) (ADEC).
