Combining the content of two of Frommer's previous books, Sports Roots and Sports Lingo, this book not only explains how nicknames, namesakes, trophies, competitions, and expressions in the world of sports came to be, but also serves as a useful dictionary of the language of sports-both technical and slang.
Harvey Frommer is the celebrated author of 37 sports books, including the classics: New York City Baseball, Shoeless Joe and Ragtime Baseball, Rickey and Robinson, The New York Yankee Encyclopedia, A Yankee Century, and the best selling Red Sox Vs. Yankees: The Great Rivalry (with Frederic J. Frommer). Professor Emeritus of the City University of New York, and professor at Dartmouth College where he teaches oral history and sports journalism, Frommer has been cited in the "Congressional Record" and honored by the New York State Lesigslature as a sports historian. He is in his 31st consecutive year of writing sports books. Frommer is a resident of Lyme, New Hampshire.
