The highest and purest form of you and I are one and the same. In essence, this book was written by and for you as pure Love and Truth, it is a guide to facilitate spiritual mindfulness and Awareness of the illusion of division. While it may appear to be a quick read due to its limited number of pages, it is actually intended to be a long study requiring focused contemplation and practice in order to fully benefit from its teachings on Awareness and spirituality.
In this book, you will learn that a single decision can change everything for the better. By understanding that the power of creation lies within you, you will realize that you do not need external sources to achieve your goals. Your rate of growth and evolution depends on the choices you make, and the first step towards change is developing Awareness. The purpose of this book is to help you discover your innate perfection and understand that the idea of "e;becoming"e; is an illusion. By developing your Awareness, you will gain insight into what is real, what truth is, and what is just a fabrication of the mind. As human beings, we are not separate from the divine force of creation and by developing awareness, you can tap into the power of Divine Grace. Author Kali Banks can guide you on this journey of self-discovery and help you understand that being aware is not something you do, it is who you are.

CHAPTER ONE

(Self) Awareness

“Your visions will become clear only when
you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

—C. G. Jung

To begin improving your life, prioritize awareness. Your inner attitude and reaction to outside events will determine the quality of your experience. High standards come from conscious awareness; low standards come from your unconscious ego. A standard is a statement about how you live. The standards you identify with and the way you choose to live are determined by your level of awareness. Similar to levels of consciousness, the human experience of awareness is within a spectrum or variation in degrees, possibly beginning at one extreme with the dualistic perspective of the known and the knower—the other extreme being the perspective of one, or pure awareness. This makes the level of your comprehension of awareness, or position within the spectrum of awareness, dependent on your level of consciousness. At one end, all things exist within awareness, yet at the other end there is no “within it” or being “outside of it,” because there is nothing but “it.” The beauty of dualistic human nature is that we are able to experience various states of awareness through the expansion of consciousness.

A large part of becoming aware means becoming self-aware, which is noticing the different aspects of your being and making yourself the focus of your own attention. This involves self-exploration and honest self-reflection. It means having conscious knowledge of your desires, feelings, and motives, and knowing your habits, behaviors, and how you react to certain experiences.

If asked, “Do you know who you are?“ most people will say with a fair amount of certainty, yes, they do. This is understandable. After all, you have identified with your personality your whole life. Yet, without being able to step away, outside of yourself, in order to gain an objective perspective, how can you really be sure of your identity? Your self-perception likely consists of many mental alterations of reality, created over time to cope with various circumstances. Thus, how you see yourself is a blend of all your personas, warping the idea of who you consider yourself to be. What you believe about yourself might not be true, at all.

As you become more self-aware, you will begin to release, ignore, and forget aspects of “yourself” because you recognize they are not you. As you become less, you become more. Awareness dissolves the illusions. It begins to silence your thoughts, allowing you to gradually release your concepts of yourself and the world, and begin seeing with new eyes. The “eyes” of awareness are gained by the release of ideas, notions, and concepts and becoming your truest self.

Ultimately, you must remember that awareness is not a thing within itself—it just is. You are not being aware; pure awareness just is. The “you” that wants to be aware is recognized by and exists within awareness. Awareness is only itself; it has no qualities. It is the formless observer of qualities. Awareness is not desire, perception, understanding, or effort. It is not anything, yet inside this nothingness is all we know to exist. This is why letting go of the mind’s personal collection of thoughts is important, because the “you” who understands awareness is the you that prevents you from seeing from the perspective of awareness. Release your concepts of self. This is how you can begin to be, allow, witness, and experience awareness from within silence and stillness. In this way, begin to know and experience yourself.

“There comes a moment when everything falls into place. This open, free, unlimited consciousness that is our own intimate self realizes that it has always been and will always be only itself, that it has never left itself for a fraction of a moment, that what appeared to be the return to itself, the remembering of itself, was simply the recognition of itself, the recognition that it has always, only ever been abiding in and as itself.”

—Rupert Spira

“Know thyself.”1 In this knowledge, you will find spiritual growth. It has been said for centuries that self-knowledge is the highest form of knowing. Some believe it is the real purpose of our journey. Knowing yourself extends outside of the typical mental constructs of identification such as “I,” “me,” and “my.” Recognizing yourself according to these pronouns is a limiting obstacle to the realization of the true self. It means you are identifying with a limited aspect of yourself, a persona or “character,” and referring to “it” as self. The phrase “the true self” prompts you to know it as your higher-self—realizing who you are and that within you all that exists will lead you to self-accountability and self-love. Being accountable for yourself means being accountable for all. Loving yourself is loving all. When you truly understand that you are one with all, you will understand that doing what is truly best for you will ultimately benefit everyone. Self-love is the truest love, and when you become aware of this love you will be able to express it. You will recognize that you have always been engulfed within it.

“To know yourself, you must sacrifice the illusion that you already do.”

—Vironika Tugaleve

Seeking, building, and maintaining an inner connection with the Creator is the foundation for self-love. This is about a personal, intimate relationship between you and The Divine that supersedes religion or any particular denomination of faith. Developing inner communication with the Source of All will reveal how you are intended to see yourself, reconfiguring your perception of self and reality as a whole.

“I searched for God and found only myself. I searched for myself and found only God.”

—Rumi

The state of loving yourself fosters actions that support physical, mental, and spiritual growth. In a more natural way, you will refrain from situations that drain your emotional, physical, and spiritual energy. Self-love helps clarify your thoughts, feelings, and intentions. You will be much more aware of who you are in this space and your actions will show it. You will do what you believe is best for you, instead of what others want or think you should be doing. These decisions will not be made from your ego. They will be made from the love of yourself that your developed awareness has provoked. You will find yourself walking away from situations and choices you once could not, and things that you used to serve but that did not serve you and your best interests. When you are able to deny the cravings of your body and mind, and embrace what is best for you (The Divine Spirit), you will have learned to love yourself. In this state of self-love, you will be able to turn away from the impulses and trained habits that have been operating within you on autopilot, keeping you stuck functioning as your lower-self.

You can become more deliberate and intentional with your actions, and learn to live in a way that everything beneficial comes to you. If something allows you to live a healthier, more meaningful life, then embrace it. Care for yourself in more positive ways, starting with your basic needs such as getting proper sleep, eating a healthy diet, drinking more high-quality water, grooming yourself more carefully, taking better care of your living space, and exercising, meditating, and setting boundaries with people without compromise, when necessary.

Write a manual about how you want and expect to be treated by others, through your actions and by the way you treat yourself. People will throw trash in places where they already see a mess, but they will also keep their trash, hold it, and not drop it in a well-kept, non-mess zone. The more you respect yourself, the more others will respect you. Likewise, the way you love yourself, is the way others will love you. Place yourself in positive environments with good and positive people. As you witness yourself growing, developing, and accomplishing your objectives, you will love yourself more.

Pay attention to the way you speak to yourself. Usually, we are much harder on ourselves than our friends, peers, and other people. You want and expect others to speak to you kindly and with understanding, so speak to yourself the same way. Make your inner voice kind and be mindful of the language you use with yourself. Your inner voice should be your best and most compassionate friend, your counselor and therapist. Work to merge your inner voice with the voice of the Creator. This will increase your intuition and confidence.

The spoken word has great power—you are what you speak and think, in the same way that you are what you eat. The words you use shape your experience and they can be both constructive and destructive. They can hurt and harm, or help and heal. Your words directly affect your mood, health, and relationships. With your words you can speak love, joy, and light into your presence, or gloom, misfortune, and discontent. In fact, the current state of your life is highly likely a direct result of the words you have been thinking and speaking regularly. Think about your experiences, and you will likely realize the words you use to describe it coincide with the type of thoughts and words you have been using for a while now. If you are happy and content, you have likely been thinking and speaking positively. But if...
