The book begins by defining nervousness and anxiety, then exploring how speakers can effectively leverage anxiety to their benefit. Later chapters discuss the biology and psychology behind nervousness, as well as their various triggers and methods for overcoming them. The book also demonstrates how meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness can help public speakers build confidence and calm nerves.

Managing Nervousness as a Public Speaker is ideal for courses in public speaking, but as the material within the book is cross-disciplinary in nature, the text could be used within any course where public speaking is essential. The book can also be used by working professionals to further develop their public speaking skills.

Dr. Kristopher K. Merceron currently works as an instructor at Valencia College, and previously taught at the University of Tampa and Hillsborough Community College. He maintains instructional experience within corporate and higher education. Dr. Merceron holds a bachelor’s degree in health sciences, a master’s degree in corporate and organizational communications specializing in leadership, and a doctorate in educational studies specializing in adult learning and development. He recently completed his dissertation focused on leadership for Black male college students in predominantly White social fraternities. Dr. Charles S. Drinnon has been an instructor at the college and university level since 2000. He has been employed by Central Georgia Technical College since 2005 in various instructional and administrative roles. Dr. Drinnon has also held adjunct faculty positions at University of Phoenix, Argosy University, Virginia College, and Carrington College. He holds degrees in education, management, communication, and English. He is a test rater for ETS Inc., and is a certified TESOL/ESL instructor.
