The British Transport Police became the first Police Force in the UK to establish a dog section when Airedale terriers began to patrol the docks of Hull in 1908. Michael Layton reached the rank of Chief Superintendent before serving with the Sovereign Bases Police in Cyprus, eventually returning to the British Transport Police. He was awarded the Queens Police Medal for distinguished police service. He has written several books on the subject of policing the rail network and football violence. Bill Rogerson MBE served with the British Transport Police for over thirty years. He was awarded an MBE for his charity and community work in North Wales, where he continues to assist a number of organisations. Bill is a founding member and current Secretary of the British Transport Police History Group.
