The Cresta rider hurtles head-first down an ice run with a vertical drop the height of a 50-storey building. With his face two inches from the ice, on a steel toboggan without steering or braking, the rider reaches speeds of 80 miles an hour plus, before thundering through the finish line - or into a bank of ice. The St Moritz Tobogganing Club in Switzerland operates the Cresta Run, building it from scratch every year in the contours of the St Moritz valley. Club member and rider Michael DiGicomo provides a history of this legendary run, and tells the stories of the riders who come every year to test their nerves and skill and experience incredible raw speed of the Cresta Run. These riders come from all walks of life, with little in common but their shared passion for speed and danger.
Michael DiGiacomo is a member of the St Moritz Tobogganing Club and a rider of The Cresta Run. He is also an investment banker and former lawyer.
