Shanghai, the 'Paris of the East', is in the midst of an economic and architectual boom. This is the first part of "The New Yangzi River" trilogy - a three volume guide to traveling to the cities along the Yangzi from Shanghai to Chongqing. Including the historical significance of each location, it contains information on the places to stay.
Today, Shanghai, the 'Paris of the East', is in the midst of an economic and architectual boom. Locals joke that you should look at the city's skyline every night because there may be a new building in the morning. Despite this growth explosion, the incredible mix of East and West with ancient and modern makes Shanghai one of the premier travel destinations in China. With its myriad of winding streets and the near gridlock traffic, an unprepared traveler may easily become overwhelmed and miss the city's highlights. Now, "Shanghai and the Yangzi Delta" by Eric N Danielson, explains the easiest way to find the major Shanghai landmarks and then provides an in-depth account of the historical significance of each location and building. Danielson also includes practical information on getting around the city and where to stay. Unlike other books about Shanghai, this travel guide also expands on the formidable Yangzi River and its impact on the city, "Shanghai and the Yangzi Delta" is the first part of "The New Yangzi River" trilogy, a three volume guide to traveling to the cities along the Yangzi from Shanghai to Chongqing.
The forthcoming two volumes are titled: "Nanjing and the Lower Yangzi" and "The Three Gorges and the Upper Yangzi".
