This guide to investing in the bioenergy market covers the topic from both a scientific, economic and political perspective. It describes the increasing number of second generation biodiesel projects which are now emerging in anticipation of growing sustainability concerns by governments, and in response to market demands for improved process efficiencies and greater feedstock production yields.

The book also closely examines the science and technology involved in second generation biofuels and gives concrete examples, such as in the aviation industry. The result is an essential guide for scientists, investors, politicians and decision-makers in the energy sector.

Roland A. Jansen, from The Netherlands, holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. Mr. Jansen is CEO of Biomass Partners Ltd. The company supplies European power plants with second generation biofuels and biomass such as wood pellets, wood chips and palm kernel shells from West Africa and the USA. He is the author of 'Profits from Natural Resources', John Wiley & Sons, New York, (1998) where he forecasted correctly the start of a new supercycle upwards. He appears regularly on Bloomberg Television to give his views on commodity and renewable energy trends. He is also a regular guest speaker at conferences around the world. Since 2004 Mr Jansen has served as an honorary consul for The Netherlands in Liechtenstein and he speaks seven languages. Through his diplomatic function Mr. Jansen has excellent relationships with governments at the highest levels in several continents.
