Roberto Pinelli, MD received his medical degree from the State University of Milan (Italy) in 1989 and specialized in ophthalmology at the same university in 1993. He is the founder (1998), the scientific director, and the senior surgeon at the Istituto Laser Microchirurgia Oculare, Brescia, Italy. Dr. Pinelli has personally performed over 8000 refractive surgeries, including LASIK, EpiLASIK, LASEK, PRK, cataract and refractive lensectomy, and phakic IOLs. At the Istituto, he led the official Italian clinical investigation on CK. Furthermore, he’s particularly fond of presbyopic multifocal LASIK (PML (R)), his personal technique to treat presbyopia through LASIK. Dr. Pinelli is the Italian representative of the editorial board of C&RSToday and is a member of the ESCRS Publication Committee. He was invited to be part of the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club (IIIC) and is the founder (2004) and the president of the Societa Italiana di Chirurgia Refrattiva (SICR) (the Italian Refractive Surgery Society). Stephen E. Pascucci, MD is the founder and medical director of Eye Consultants of Bonita Springs. He recently relocated in 2004 to Southwest Florida after a career that spanned nearly 2 decades in private practice as a corneal disease and refractive specialist at Northeastern Eye Institute, Scranton, Pennsylvania. While at Northeastern Eye, Dr. Pascucci founded the corneal and external disease service and was responsible for bringing modern corneal and refractive surgery to Northeastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Pascucci has performed refractive surgery since completing his corneal fellowship under the directorship of Dr. Michael Lemp at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. His experience includes incisional corneal procedures, including radial keratotomy and astigmatic keratotomy, as well as an extensive knowledge with respect to excimer laser vision correction. He began performing CK shortly after FDA approval in 2002, and he is recognized both nationally and internationally as an expert in the procedure. He has instructed hundreds of surgeons in the proper techniques of CK as well as in proper patient selection methods, complications management, and applications of CK following excimer laser procedures and cataract surgery. He was among the first to describe the effects of CK on wavefront aberrometry and to investigate the effects of CK in patients who had undergone previous radial keratotomy and corneal transplant procedures. Additionally, Dr. Pascucci has a strong interest in corneal imaging technologies, and he is considered quite knowledgeable about Orbscan (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY) technology and the various application of that method of corneal analysis. His other interests in ophthalmology include clinical research in antibiotic therapy as well as the pharmacologic treatment of dry eye.
