Designed to serve as a quick reference, this work aims to answer many of the questions frequently asked by junior doctors in training. It lists methods of diagnosis and management of common orthopaedic complaints, covering fractures of the upper and lower limb and the spinal cord.
Based on the formula of Dunn and Rawlinson's "Surgical Diagnosis and Management", this book is directed to clinical medical students, housemen, SHOs and junior registrars working in orthopaedic departments. Designed to be carried in the white coat pocket for rapid reference, it answers many of the questions frequently asked by junior doctors in training. Where possible the author has also given answers to questions most frequently asked by patients. The text is concise and practical, listing methods of diagnosis and the management of common orthopaedic complaints. Starting with a chapter on the daily management of patients in the orthopaedic ward, there then follow two chapters on the general principles of fracture management, multiple trauma, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, infection, compartment syndrome, and deep venous thrombosis. The rest of the text is devoted to specific orthopaedic problems grouped anatomically into upperlimb, spinal column and lower limb. Each complaint is presented using standardized headings which include: history, examination, radiographs, management, complications and post-operative care.
