Dr. Marc MARESCA was born on 25 October 1974. He is an assistant professor at the Institute of Molecular Sciences of Marseille (ISM2, UMR-CNRS 7313). Research performed at this multidisciplinary institute aims at combining different techniques (cell biology, microbiology, toxicology, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, chromatography, chemometrics, peptide synthesis) in order to understand biological mechanisms (eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems). Dr Marc MARESCA is specialized in using and characterizing in vitro cell models for toxicity studies, including human intestine epithelium and brain cell models as demonstrated by his publications in both subjects. Part of his research is on food-contaminants and their toxicity, including pesticides and mycotoxins (particularly deoxynivalenol but also ochratoxin, patulin and fumonisin). He has published major articles on the effects of deoxynivalenol and its derivatives on the human gut. He also has expertise in antibiotic development (particularly antimicrobial peptides) and works to understand their mechanisms of action (pore-forming activity, safety of antibiotics to human and animal cells).
