Considers two essential aspects in chronic heart failure: the quality of life of chronic heart failure patients and nitrate therapy. The text covers the physical, mental, emotional and social condition of the patient and aspects of nitrate therapy in heart failure and acute myocardial infarction.
This book deals with two essential aspects in chronic heart failure: The quality of life of chronic heart failure patients and nitrate therapy. In the first part the quality of life of patients suffering from chronic heart failure is addressed for the first time on an interdisciplinary level. These patients' physical, mental, emotional, and social conditions are approached from numerous and diverse points of view, including those of the patient himself, the patient's family, the general practitioner, the cardiologist, the heart surgeon, the hospital resident, the epidemiologist, and the health economist. All these aspects are treated by prominent experts of the different disciplines concerned. One of the conclusions suggested is that quality of life considerations should be given greater scope when planning the development of new drugs for the treatment of Chronic Heart Failure. The second part of the book covers new aspects of nitrate therapy in heart failure and acute myocardial infarction.
It points out the importance of remodelling as a mechanism after acute myocardial infarction; and the fact that treatment with nitrates may possibly prevent chronic heart failure or play a role in early remodelling of the heart.
