Enhanced ebook on CD in PDF format, readable on PC or Mac using Adobe Reader, with sound and video files. Shows how to play Ageshe, one of the most difficult and exciting pieces of the Ewe people of south-east Ghana, played using both hand and stick drumming techniques.
Learn how to play Ageshe, one of the most difficult and exciting pieces of the Ewe people of south-east Ghana, played using both hand and stick drumming techniques. You will discover how to play the drum parts, both supporting and lead, what the rhythms are, and how they fit together. The disk contains practice recording tracks, with computer generated sound files linked to notation, showing exactly what you have to do. To give a flavour of the authentic music and dance, there is an audio recording and a video of a performance by young people in Ghana. This ebook is appropriate for mixed ability groups from about 14 years of age, with some easier parts and some more difficult parts that would stretch older students. It also includes background cultural information.

Trevor Wiggins is Director of Music at Dartington College of Arts, UK, and an acknowledged authority on West African music. He has been studying and playing Ghanaian drums and xylophones for more than twenty years, often with Ghanaian master drummer Johnson Kemeh (Senior Instructor at the University of Ghana), and has written books and articles on the subject. Using his training as a musician and teacher, he explains in simple terms what you need to know.
