This book is the first comprehensive study of the history of translating Tolstoy's masterpiece into English between 1886 and 2000. Apart from comparing different translations, it covers the history of how foreign literature was introduced to English language readers throughout the centuries. It can help non-Russian speakers to choose the most suitable translation for them and would be of interest to both scholars and wide reading audiences.
