Insights and behind-the-scenes stories from the caddies tell of the triumphs and disappointments of Ryder Cup clashes from 1985 to the present. Each chapter includes a biography of the caddie and his player, a resume of the match and description of the trials and tribulations on the course.
This is the story of the triumphs and disappointments of Ryder Cup clashes since 1985, as told by the caddies involved. It forms a collection of insights and behind-the-scenes accounts by the bag-men who have accompanied the world's top players in the competition over the past 17 years, culminating in the thrilling European win at the Belfry in September 2002. Among the many commentators on the 2002 Cup clash, Paul McGinley's caddie talks of his experience and recounts how the Irishman needed just half a point in his match with Jim Furyk to secure the Cup for Europe. Despite trailing for most of this match, he holed a putt from 11 feet at the 18th to ensure defeat for the Americans. Elsewhere in the book, Sam Torrence's caddie describes the historic putt in 1985 which gave Europe its first victory over the US for 28 years, Seve Ballesteros' caddie recollects the "different balls" controversy of 1991 and Bernard Langer's caddie gives the lowdown on the missed five-foot putt which lost the Cup that year.

Norman Dabell has broadcast for BBC Radio and written for the Daily Telegraph and Reuters. He is the author of two other books on golf, Winning the Open and Natural Hazard.
