Anorexia Nervosa: Guidelines for Assessment and Treatment in Primary and Secondary Care" is based on Professor Crisp's long-standing views which came to be known as the "St George's" approach to anorexia nervosa. The book aims to outline in a clear, practical way the minimum intervention necessary within primary and secondary care settings if the psychopathology of this serious and life-threatening illness is first to be identified and then treated with some hope of success.; The approach outlined in the book is an attempt at a time-limited and meaningful intervention in the assessment and care of anorexia nervosa. The approach involves concurrent use by both patient and therapist and also, to some extent, the family of the "self-help" book "Anorexia Nervosa: The Wish to Change" and the "Patient's Log Book". Together, the three books form this clinician's pack. "Anorexia Nervosa: The Wish to Change" and the "Patient's Log Book" are also available separately.
Arthur Crisp is emeritus professor of psychological medicine in the University of London's St George's Hospital Medical School. He has treated patients suffering from Anorexia Nervosa for over 35 years and has researched the condition extensively. Lisa McLelland was lecturer in psychiatry at St George's and worked with Professor Crisp in the Anorectic Unit. The other authors all worked in his team at St. George's for some years and are recognised authorities in their respective eating disorders fields. Neil Joughin is now a consultant psychiatrist working independently and continuing to develop his interest in eating disorders. Chris Halek is currently senior nurse practitioner, ANNEX Nursing Development Unit, which provides out-patient services for people with eating disorders at Pathfinder Mental Health Services NHS Trust. Carol Bowyer is now working as a dietician for an eating disorders service within the private sector.
